Somerset, KY – The state of Kentucky is facing a significant shortage of nurses, with less than ten nurses for every 1,000 residents, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This shortage is further exacerbated by a lack of nurse educators, which prevents nursing schools from admitting enough students to address the shortfall. The dearth of qualified nurses results in increased burnout and attrition rates, which further contribute to the shortage.
Somerset Community College (SCC) has taken a proactive approach to address the Commonwealth nurse shortage by providing high-quality nursing education opportunities at affordable tuition costs. Over the last five years, SCC has graduated 454 individuals from the Practical Nursing and Associate Degree Nursing Programs.
SCC’s nursing programs have been recognized by both practicalnursing.org and TopNursing.org, ranking in the top ten for best LPN programs in the state. The Associate Degree Nursing Program at SCC is also approved by the Kentucky Board of Nursing.
