Kentucky Prosecutors and Victims Advocates Release Statement Marking National Crime Victims’ Rights Week

FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 20, 2026) – Attorney General Russell Coleman joined Commonwealth’s Attorneys, County Attorneys and victim advocates to mark National Crime Victims’ Rights Week by releasing a public service announcement aimed at raising awareness of the impact crime has on Kentucky’s families and communities.

Half of all adults in Kentucky will experience sexual violence, physical violence or stalking in their lifetimes. Fifteen percent of incidents reported to law enforcement in Kentucky between 2018 and 2022 were child abuse – 90% of the time perpetrators of child sexual abuse are known to the family and not considered strangers.

If you have been a victim of a crime, contact the Attorney General’s Victim Resource and Referral Line at (800) 372-2551.

“Kentucky’s prosecutors, law enforcement and victim advocates stand united in support of crime victims and their families, “said Attorney General Coleman. “If you or someone you know has been a victim of a crime, please know there are resources available to support you. During National Crime Victims’ Rights Week and every week, we are ready to come alongside you to secure justice.”

This year marks the 45th National Crime Victims’ Rights Week with the theme of “Listen. Act. Advocate.”  The annual week is a time to honor survivors, promote victims’ rights and advocate for comprehensive services to support victims.  Watch the full video here.
