The Oklahoma City Thunder have returned to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2016 — and they did it with authority. In a dominant 125-93 Game 7 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Sunday, the Thunder put the league on notice.
Despite a slow start, including missing their first several three-point attempts, the Thunder roared back with an 18-5 second-quarter run that flipped the game. By halftime, Oklahoma City led 60-46 and never looked back, outpacing and outlasting a visibly fatigued Nuggets squad.
OKC’s relentless defense was the game-changer, forcing 22 turnovers and racking up 16 steals. Alex Caruso was a defensive spark plug, earning crowd admiration with three steals and a +40 rating.
While Nikola Jokić flirted with a triple-double (20 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists), Denver’s legs gave out in the second half. A depleted bench and internal turmoil — including the late-season firings of head coach Michael Malone and GM Calvin Booth — compounded their collapse.
Now, the Thunder look ahead to Tuesday’s Game 1 against the surging Minnesota Timberwolves. With momentum, health, and depth on their side, OKC seems poised to make a serious title run — and perhaps, rewrite their playoff history.
