The Cincinnati Bengals have solidified their offensive core by signing wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins to substantial contract extensions. Chase’s four-year, $161 million deal, with $112 million guaranteed, positions him as the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, averaging $40.25 million annually. Higgins secured a four-year, $115 million contract, with guarantees for the first two years.
These extensions reflect the Bengals’ commitment to maintaining a potent offense alongside quarterback Joe Burrow. Chase, entering the final year of his rookie contract, led the NFL last season in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns, achieving the prestigious receiving triple crown. Higgins, despite previous franchise tagging, has consistently delivered strong performances, recording a career-high 10 touchdowns last season.
The negotiations were influenced by Burrow’s advocacy for retaining his top targets, underscoring the team’s strategy to preserve their dynamic offensive trio. However, these lucrative deals raise concerns about future salary cap implications, particularly regarding potential contracts for key defensive players like Trey Hendrickson.
By securing Chase and Higgins, the Bengals aim to remain competitive in their pursuit of a Super Bowl title, ensuring Burrow continues to have elite receiving options in the coming seasons.
