Popular Dog Treats Recalled Due to Salmonella Concerns Popular Dog Treats Recalled Due to Salmonella Concerns

It seems like there’s a new recall every day, honestly. It’s out of hand, and so many of them impact our pets: it seems like no matter what we try to feed them, it might just be contaminated.

As Parade Pets reports, a new recall has been issued: Supercan Bulk is pulling their Pig Ear Slivers from shelves after salmonella concerns surfaced. The contaminated bags were sold in Washington State, and there were 500 bags in the lot.

Recalled 15.9oz bags were sold at a North 40 store in Washington, and contaminated bags will have the expiration date 11/9/2026. If you purchased these treats somewhere else, or they don’t have the matching expiration date, no action is required!

It’s important to note that as of now, there have been no reported cases of salmonella infection in humans or animals because of the treats. Testing confirmed that there was salmonella bacteria present, which could lead to infection, so dog parents are advised to either throw out the treats or return them to the store for a full refund.

Cooking or baking the treats to remove the bacteria is not recommended, as you may not be able to reach a safe internal temperature. It’s best to get rid of them and, if you can, get a refund from North 40 directly.

Watch for these Signs of Salmonella

If you’ve already fed your dog a contaminated treat, there’s really nothing you can do except make sure not to give them any more. No dogs have gotten sick so far, but there are some things to look out for:

  • Fever
  • Chills/shivering
  • Excessive whimpering
  • Lethargy
  • Bloody vomit or diarrhea.

As soon as you notice any of these signs in your dog, get to the vet as quickly as you can. From there, they’ll administer fluids and possibly prescribe antibiotics to help the pup beat the infection.

As always, research treats before you buy them, and keep an eye out for recalls whenever you can!
