Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch has officially stitched up the competition, delivering a massive $183 million over the Memorial Day weekend and dethroning Top Gun: Maverick for the biggest holiday debut in history. The remake soared past expectations and now sits as the fifth-largest Disney opening outside the realms of Marvel or Star Wars.
Globally, Lilo & Stitch has already amassed $304 million, outperforming the original film’s lifetime total after just one weekend. With a modest $100 million budget, it’s shaping up to be one of the most profitable hits of 2025.
Trailing in second, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning debuted with a solid $77 million across four days, marking a franchise-best opening. Meanwhile, horror fans fueled Final Destination: Bloodlines to a scorching $94.6 million in just 11 days—already a series record.
Marvel’s Thunderbolts* continues to struggle with $173.8 million to date, unlikely to crack $200M domestically. Ryan Coogler’s Sinners remains a sleeper hit, crossing $259 million with legs strong enough for a potential $300M run.
All eyes are now on June’s upcoming releases—Superman, Jurassic World: Rebirth, and A24’s Bring Her Back—to see who can match Disney’s fiery kickoff.
