Inside Story

It’s Men’s Health Month… and Week! It’s Men’s Health Month… and Week!

Men’s Health Week is observed annually in the month of June, typically during the week leading up to Father’s Day. In 2025, that’s from June 9th to June 15th. The purpose of Men’s Health Week is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys, and encourage them to prioritize their well-being.

Men’s Health is a Family Issue

To quote Congressman Bill Richardson (Congressional Record, H3905-H3906, May 24, 1994): “Recognizing and preventing men’s health problems is not just a man’s issue. Because of its impact on wives, mothers, daughters, and sisters, men’s health is truly a family issue.”

Men’s health is a broad topic, encompassing both physical and mental health, including preventative care, screenings, and addressing barriers to healthcare. While widely observed in countries like the USA, Canada, Europe, and Australia, Men’s Health Week also collaborates with organizations in other regions to raise awareness about men’s health issues globally.

The week provides an opportunity for individuals, healthcare providers, organizations, and policymakers to engage in activities that promote men’s health, such as discussions, screenings, and education.

Wear BLUE Day

Wear BLUE Day is celebrated by private corporations, government agencies, sports teams, and individuals to show their concern for the health and wellbeing of boys and men.

Organizations and individuals can host a Wear BLUE day to raise awareness and money for education about men’s need to seek regular checkups, or testicular cancer education, prostate cancer education, or other health issues that affect men. (Cardiovascular disease, skin cancer, lung cancer, diabetes, gout, and more.)

Wear BLUE Day is a part of the year-round Wear BLUE® awareness campaign that was created by Men’s Health Network to raise awareness about the importance of male health and to encourage men to live longer and healthier lives, and give women an opportunity to encourge them to do so. Many people take advantage of less stringent work attire to show their support of men’s health by wearing blue.

The social media hashtag #ShowUsYourBlue has grown tremendously over the years.

Wear BLUE Day and Men’s Health Week are sponsored by Men’s Health Network. Men’s Health Network is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to reach boys, men and their families with health awareness messages where they live, work, pray, and play.
