Sports Update: Weekend Wrap-Up, Monday Nov. 4th, 2024

Weekend Wrap-Up:

High School Football:

It was a mixed night for our local teams as they wrapped up regular-season play:

  • Glasgow Scotties defeated the Somerset Briar Jumpers 27-14.
  • Corbin Redhounds claimed a 28-12 win over the Pulaski County Maroons.
  • Southwestern Warriors dominated with a shutout victory, 31-0, against Henry Clay Blue Devils.

The playoffs begin this Friday:

  • Class 2A: Owen Co. Rebels (6-4) at Somerset Briar Jumpers (6-4)
  • Class 5A: West Jessamine Colts (3-7) at Pulaski Co. Maroons (6-4)
  • East Jessamine Jaguars (4-6) at Southwestern Warriors (3-7)

College Football:

The Kentucky Wildcats fell 28-18 to No. 7 Tennessee on the road. UK freshman Jamarion Wilcox stood out, rushing for a career-high 102 yards. Now 3-6 on the season, Kentucky has a bye this week but will host Murray State Racers on November 16th, with a 1:30 PM kickoff.

NFL:

Joe Burrow led the Cincinnati Bengals to a thrilling 41-39 win over the Las Vegas Raiders with 251 yards and five touchdowns. This Thursday, the Bengals (4-5) face their division rivals, the Baltimore Ravens (6-3), at 8:15 PM. Live coverage begins at 7 PM on WTLO AM 1480/97.7 FM and Prime Video.

MLB:

The Cincinnati Reds have re-signed left-handed reliever Brent Suter to a one-year, $2.5 million contract for 2025. Suter posted a 3.53 ERA over 63.3 innings in 47 games last season.

College Basketball Openers – Monday:

Kentucky Wildcats (23-10 last season) tip off their season against Wright State Raiders (18-15 last season). Under new head coach Mark Pope, Kentucky is coming off two dominant exhibition wins. Tipoff is at 7 PM, with coverage on ESPNU.

Kentucky women’s team, led by new head coach Kenny Brooks, will open at home against USC Upstate Spartans (16-16 last season). Tipoff is at 5 PM on SEC Network Plus.

WKU Hilltoppers host Wichita State Shockers in Bowling Green, with WKU head coach Hank Plona making his debut. Tipoff is set for 8 PM ET, available on WTLO AM 1480/97.7 FM and CBS Sports Network.

Monday Night NFL:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-4) head to Kansas City to face the Chiefs (7-0) on Monday Night Football. Kickoff is at 8:15 PM on ESPN.
