In just his second big league game, Reds rookie Rece Hinds had three more extra-base hits, including a massive 458-foot home run, leading Cincinnati to a 12-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Great American Ball Park. Additionally, Cincinnati RHP Hunter Greene (5-1, 3.45 ERA) has been chosen as a replacement on the NL All-Star team. Greene, who has pitched 104 innings with 116 strikeouts, replaces LA Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow, who is out with a back injury. It is Greene’s first All-Star game appearance.
College Football:
University of Kentucky junior defensive tackle Deone Walker has been named a Preseason Second Team All-American by Walter Camp, the oldest college football All-American team. Walker, a 6’6, 348-pound defensive lineman, led UK with 12.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 quarterback sacks, and 8 quarterback hurries. Kentucky kicks off the 2024 campaign on Saturday, August 31, against Southern Miss at Kroger Field in Lexington, with kickoff at 7:45 PM.
