College Volleyball
The No. 9 Kentucky Wildcats faced off against the No. 2 Nebraska Cornhuskers in the AVCA First Serve Showcase at the Yum Center in Louisville. Despite a strong effort and taking one set, the Wildcats fell 3-1 in the nationally televised event on ESPN.

In the opener of a three-game series at Great American Ball Park, the Cincinnati Reds were narrowly defeated by the Oakland Athletics 5-4. Santiago Espinal, Ty France, TJ Friedl, and Spencer Steer each drove in runs for the Reds. The series continues Wednesday with RHP Fernando Cruz (3-8, 5.30 ERA) starting for the Reds. - Somerset Briar Jumpers (1-0) will take on the Russell County Lakers (0-1) at 7:30 PM ET. Somerset is coming off a 48-7 win over Perry County Central, while Russell County looks to bounce back from a 22-16 loss to Adair County. Last season, Somerset defeated Russell County 28-24. - Kentucky Wildcats (SEC) kick off their season at home against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles (Sun Belt). UK leads the overall series 3-1, winning the last matchup 24-17 in 2017. The Wildcats have won 19 of their last 21 non-conference games and boast a strong record in season openers. Kickoff is set for 7:45 PM, with live coverage on SEC Network.
- Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers (CUSA) open their season on the road against the No. 5 Alabama Crimson Tide (SEC) in Tuscaloosa. This will be WKU starting QB TJ Finley’s first start with the Hilltoppers. Alabama leads the series 3-0, with the last meeting resulting in a 38-10 win for the Tide in 2016.
