High School Volleyball:

The Somerset Lady Briar Jumpers swept Cumberland Christian Home School 3-0 in their match on Monday.

MLB:

TJ Friedl homered as the Cincinnati Reds secured a 6-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in the series opener.

College Football:

  • University of Kentucky: Defensive tackle Deone Walker has been named a preseason Second Team All-American by the Associated Press. Last season, Walker recorded 12.5 tackles for a loss, 7.5 sacks, 8 quarterback hurries, and broke up two pass plays. The Wildcats kick off their 2024 season on Saturday, August 31st, at home against Southern Miss. Kickoff is at 7:45 PM.
  • Western Kentucky University: WKU Hilltoppers defensive tackle Hosea Wheeler has been named to the 2024 Lombardi Award Watch List, which honors a college football lineman or linebacker who best embodies the values and spirit of Vince Lombardi. Wheeler, a 6’3″, 300-pound redshirt junior, was an All-CUSA Second Team selection last season, recording 42 tackles, 3 for a loss, 2 sacks, a forced fumble, an interception, and a quarterback hurry. The Lombardi Trophy will be awarded on December 11th. WKU begins their season on Saturday, August 31st, against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa. Kickoff is at 7:00 PM ET.
