In Thursday’s college volleyball action, the No. 8 University of Kentucky volleyball team concluded their season with a 3-2 sets loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks in the NCAA tournament regional semifinals. Despite the setback, Kentucky had a commendable season, finishing at 21-8/17-1 SEC and securing the conference championship for the seventh consecutive year.

On Thursday in the NFL, the New England Patriots claimed a 21-18 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Former WKU Hilltoppers QB Bailey Zappe played a significant role for New England, going 19 of 28 passing for 240 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.

In college football news, Kentucky RB Ray Davis announced on social media that he would participate in the Wildcats’ Gator Bowl game against the Clemson Tigers on December 29th. Davis had an impressive season, rushing for over 1,000 yards and setting a record with 20 touchdowns. The game is scheduled to kick off at noon on ESPN.

Looking ahead to high school basketball on Friday, there were doubleheader broadcasts on Somerset 106.1 FM. The Rockcastle Co. Lady Rockets (1-1) faced the Somerset Lady Briar Jumpers (0-3) in the first game, with tipoff at 6 p.m. The boys’ game featured Rockcastle Co. (2-0) against Somerset (2-1) at approximately 7:45 p.m.

In college basketball action on Saturday, the No. 16 Kentucky Wildcats (6-2) were set to play in Philadelphia against the Ivy League’s Penn Quakers (5-4). UK aimed to bounce back from an 80-73 upset loss at home to UNC-Wilmington. Penn had a strong win against FDU-Florham on Wednesday night, with Saturday’s tipoff at noon on ESPN2.

Also on Saturday, the WKU Hilltoppers (6-3) were scheduled to face the University of Buffalo Bulls (1-8), a Mid-American conference team.
