In Thursday’s high school baseball action, Madison Southern defeated Pulaski County 13-3 in five innings, while East Jessamine secured a 6-3 victory over Southwestern.

On the softball diamond, the Pulaski County Lady Maroons shut out the Southwestern Lady Warriors with a score of 10-0, and the Somerset Christian School Cougars triumphed over Danville Christian Academy with a commanding 13-0 win in five innings.

In college basketball news, Reed Sheppard, the standout freshman from the University of Kentucky and recipient of the National Freshman of the Year award, has chosen to forgo his remaining college eligibility and declare for the upcoming NBA Draft. Sheppard, who played in all 33 games for the Wildcats this past season, averaged 12.5 points per game while boasting an impressive 52.1% shooting percentage from three-point range. He is projected as a Lottery Pick in the draft.

Additionally, Kenny Payne, former head coach of the Louisville Cardinals and former assistant coach for the Kentucky Wildcats, has joined the staff at Arkansas alongside Coach John Calipari. Payne, who was recently let go after two seasons at UL, previously served as an assistant coach at Kentucky from 2010 to 2020 under Coach Cal. He will assume the role of associate head coach for the Razorbacks.
