High School Sports Recap and Upcoming College Football Action

As the fall sports season continues, high school athletes in our area are making their mark on the soccer and volleyball courts, while fans eagerly await the start of college football. Here’s a look at recent results and upcoming matchups:


Monday High School Sports Highlights:

Soccer: The Somerset Lady Briar Jumpers continued their strong start to the season with an impressive 4-1 victory over the Pulaski County Lady Maroons. Somerset’s offensive firepower was on full display as they dominated the match from start to finish.

In another close contest, the Lincoln County squad edged out the Southwestern Lady Warriors with a 2-1 win. Both teams showed great determination, but Lincoln County managed to secure the victory in a tightly fought game.

Volleyball: On the volleyball court, the Somerset Lady Briar Jumpers delivered a dominant performance, sweeping Lincoln County 3-0. The Lady Jumpers were in top form, displaying excellent teamwork and skill.

Meanwhile, the Corbin team faced a tough battle against the Southwestern Lady Warriors but emerged victorious with a 3-2 win. The match was a thrilling back-and-forth affair, with Corbin managing to clinch the win in the decisive fifth set.


Tuesday MLB: Cincinnati Reds Begin Series Against Oakland A’s

Baseball fans will be tuning in as the Cincinnati Reds (63-68) host the Oakland A’s (56-75) for the opener of a three-game series at Great American Ball Park. Both teams are looking to improve their standings as the season heads into the final stretch. The first pitch is set for 6:40 PM ET, and live coverage will be available on WTLO AM 1480/97.7 FM.


Friday High School Football: Key Matchups to Watch

This Friday, high school football teams are gearing up for another exciting round of games.

  • Somerset Briar Jumpers (1-0) at Russell Co. Lakers (0-1): The Briar Jumpers will travel to face the Russell County Lakers, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 PM ET. Fans can catch all the action live on Somerset 106.1 FM and online at Somerset106.com.
  • Pulaski Co. Maroons (0-1) at Danville Admirals (0-1): Both teams will be looking for their first win of the season when the Maroons take on the Admirals at 7:30 PM ET.

Saturday College Football: Wildcats and Hilltoppers Kick Off the Season

College football fans are in for a treat this Saturday as the season officially kicks off.

  • Kentucky Wildcats vs. Southern Miss Golden Eagles: The Wildcats will host the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in their season opener. Kentucky leads the overall series 3-1 and will be looking to add another win to that tally. The last time these two teams met was in 2017, with the Wildcats coming out on top 24-17. Kickoff is set for 7:45 PM ET, with live coverage on the SEC Network.
  • Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at No. 5 Alabama Crimson Tide: The Hilltoppers face a tough challenge as they head to Tuscaloosa to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide.
