Free Tax Assistance Available at Pulaski County Public Library

The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program will once again offer in-person tax assistance and electronic filing on a first come, first served basis to local taxpayers. (AARP Membership NOT required.} The tax assistance will be available at the Pulaski County Public Library on Main Street–Mondays from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm on the following dates: February 2, 9; March 2, 9, 16, 30; April 6, 13. Counselors will also be available on Thursdays from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm on the following dates: February 5, 12, 19, 26; March 5, 12, 19, 26; April 2, 9. When weather conditions cause the Pulaski County schools or the library to close or delay opening, the tax program will not be available.

The library has a full schedule with other organizations using their facilities. Therefore, as a courtesy to other people and to avoid disrupting other programs, taxpayers are asked to arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before the scheduled times. In an effort to accommodate taxpayers with limited mobility, a VERY LIMITED number of appointments are available. All other taxpayers will be assisted on a first come, first served basis.

The new tax was passed after many IRS and employer reporting forms were designed. Therefore, in addition to the usual paperwork, taxpayers expecting to claim the tax free interest on automobile loans, no tax on voluntary tips, and no tax on overtime will need to bring supporting documentation—vehicle VIN number, a record of voluntary tips received, and a record of regular and overtime pay (hours and regular and overtime rates—usually included on the last pay stub for the calendar year.
