Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County’s Louis D. Garrett Veteran’s Village

Saturday, April 24, 2024 marked a significant milestone as Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County broke ground for the Veterans Build Initiative.

The groundbreaking ceremony not only marked the beginning of three veterans cottages but also included the dedication of the esteemed First Sergeant U.S. Army Louis D. Garrett Village. Maxine Garrett, the widow of First Sergeant Garrett and the family were in attendance. Her presence added profound meaning to the event.

This event symbolized Habitat for Humanity of Pulaski County’s commitment to honoring and supporting our veterans, who have sacrificed so much for our nation.

On October 17th, 2024, the keys to the 3 cottages built in honor of Garrett were presented to their new US Veteran homeowners.  It was a wonderful evening of celebration.  The impact of the Veteran’s Build Initiative and the legacy of Garrett lives on.

Maxine Garrett passed away on May 10, 2024 at the age of 99.
