Sports Update: Monday Oct. 14th, 2024

Last week, the Pulaski County Maroons secured a commanding 42-14 victory over North Laurel, while the Franklin County Flyers handed the Southwestern Warriors a tough 49-13 loss.

Looking ahead to this Friday night, here’s the lineup of games:

  • The Somerset Briar Jumpers (4-3) will travel to face the winless Danville Admirals (0-7). Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM, and live coverage will be available on Somerset 106.1 FM and Somerset106.com.
  • The Pulaski County Maroons (4-3) will host the Harlan County Black Bears (1-5) with a 7:30 PM kickoff.
  • The Southwestern Warriors (3-4) will look to bounce back as they host the South Laurel Cardinals (5-2) at 7:30 PM.

High School Soccer Tournament Action

The 12th Region Boys and Girls Soccer Tournaments are kicking off this week.

For the boys, matches will be held at Boyle County High School:

  • Monday, 6:30 PM: Somerset (14-4) will take on East Jessamine (3-13).
  • Tuesday, 6:30 PM: Somerset Christian School (7-9) faces West Jessamine (9-8), followed by Pulaski County (9-7) vs Boyle County (11-5) at 8:30 PM.

For the girls, matches will be held at Somerset High School:

  • Monday, 6:30 PM: Pulaski County Lady Maroons (16-3) square off against Boyle County (14-6).
  • Monday, 8:30 PM: Southwestern Lady Warriors battle East Jessamine.
  • Tuesday, 6:30 PM: West Jessamine vs Lincoln County.
  • Tuesday, 8:30 PM: Somerset Lady Briar Jumpers (14-6) take on Wayne County (10-9).

High School Volleyball Highlights

It was an exciting week for volleyball. The Pulaski County Lady Maroons earned a 3-2 win over Adair County, but fell 3-2 in a hard-fought match against Boyle County. The Southwestern Lady Warriors split their matches, losing 2-1 to Adair County but bouncing back to defeat Portland Christian School 2-0.


College Football: Kentucky Wildcats Fall to Vanderbilt

In a disappointing performance, the Kentucky Wildcats were defeated by the Vanderbilt Commodores 20-13. The Wildcats struggled with penalties, committing 12 infractions for 106 yards. UK QB Brock Vandagriff passed for 158 yards and one touchdown, but it wasn’t enough to overcome their mistakes.

The Wildcats will look to rebound this Saturday when they face the Florida Gators in Gainesville. Kickoff is set for 7:45 PM, and the game will be broadcast live on the SEC Network.


NFL Recap: Bengals Bounce Back

The Cincinnati Bengals picked up a crucial 17-7 win over the New York Giants on Sunday night. Joe Burrow led the way, completing 19 of 28 passes for 208 yards and adding a 47-yard rushing touchdown.
