Elly De La Cruz had an impressive performance with four hits, two runs scored, two RBIs, and a stolen base. Tyler Stephenson and Ty France added home runs to lead the Cincinnati Reds to an 8-2 victory over the Miami Marlins.

In other news, Cincinnati has signed former Reds catcher Tucker Barnhardt to a minor league deal. Recently released by the Arizona Diamondbacks, Barnhardt was Cincinnati’s 10th-round pick in the 2009 MLB Draft and won two Gold Glove Awards over his eight seasons with the Reds (2014-2021). He has also played for the Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs, boasting a career .241 batting average with 53 home runs.
College Football:
Kentucky senior running back Chip Trayanum has been named to the preseason list for the Doak Walker Award, given to the most outstanding running back in college football. The 5’11”, 227 lb player joined UK in January after two seasons at Ohio State. Last year, he was Ohio State’s second leading rusher with 373 yards on 85 rushes, three touchdowns, nine receptions for 53 yards, and a 14-yard kickoff return. Trayanum’s career totals include 1,157 rushing yards, 13 TDs, and 16 receptions for 91 yards. The Kentucky Wildcats open the 2024 season at home against Southern Miss on August 31st, with kickoff at 7:45 PM.
WKU Hilltopper running back Elijah Young is also on the preseason list for the Doak Walker Award. Young led WKU in rushing last season with 474 yards and three touchdowns on 104 carries, adding 247 yards and three touchdowns on 20 receptions. Hilltopper QB TJ Finley has been named to the Walter Camp 2024 Player of the Year Watch List. Last season at Texas State, Finley accumulated 3,439 yards, 24 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, with 81 rushing yards and five TDs in 13 starts. WKU will open the season on Saturday, August 31, against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, with kickoff at 7:00 PM ET.
